SHIPPING SERVICE GUIDELINES

General Shipping Service Guidelines
• Rate quotes are based on the information provided by the customer.
• Additional charges such as attempted pick-ups, attempted deliveries, demurrage, and per diem are not included in the initial rate quote provided. Learn more about LTL additional charges and drayage accessorial.
• The final freight charges are going to be based on the actual weight, dimension, or freight classification of the shipment received by the carrier. It will also include all accessorial charges necessary when executing the service even if it wasn’t requested initially.
• Carriers can take up to thirty (30) days to bill additional charges to the final invoice.
• Any dispute of any charges must be submitted within the first thirty (30) days from the delivery or notification of the fee at issue.
• The pick-up date is subject to equipment availability. Please make sure to schedule the pick-up with enough time because distance, pick-up location, shipping hours, and/or unexpected circumstances may prevent the pick-up on the same day.
• Transit times are standard, and they are defined by the carrier unless otherwise is specified. Please allow an additional day or two while the freight is in transit to cover unexpected delays in the delivery.
• Extra insurance is available upon request. Motor carrier’s often have limits to their liability, and as such, absent a written declaration prior to shipping, your cargo may move at a released value well below its actual value. As little as ten cents per pound in some circumstances. This is unrelated to a motor carrier’s cargo insurance coverage, which has a policy limit of $100,000 per shipment, for most carriers. Finally, upon your request, GLT can assist you in obtaining a direct insurance policy to provide you with direct coverage for the shipment independent of a carrier’s limits of liability or insurance policies.
• Invoices must be paid in full before shipment is delivered unless you have a credit line approved with us.
• GLT Logistics may charge interest at the rate of 1.5% per month on undisputed overdue invoices. Invoices are due and payable within thirty (30) days from the invoice date.
• GLT Logistics is not responsible for losses, damages, or delays on your shipments.
• Freight charges must be paid in full before the claim is filed and processed.
• GLT Logistics will assist your company in filing a claim against the carrier if needed.
• Please make sure to take notes on any weight discrepancies, shortages, loss, or damages on the proof of delivery receipt (POD). This information will act as evidence when filing claims, and it will increase the possibility of receiving a positive outcome. The failure to note shortage, loss, or damage on the delivery receipt may relieve the carrier of liability.
• If the customer wants to return the product back to the shippers’ location, the freight charges of this process are going to be charged as well.
• The responsibility of loading/unloading the shipment lies on the shipper/consignee.
• Loading Process: The shipper needs to load the freight in the truck in the same way it was quoted (Length, Width, Height).
Less Than Truckload
• Extra Insurance: Up to $25,000 of declared value for only $35. We recommend that you directly insure your shipment if the commercial value exceeds the carrier’s liability. A carrier’s liability is often limited to dollars or even cents per pound. If the value of your cargo is greater than that, you should declare a value to the motor carrier or obtain an independent insurance policy in your favor.
• Loose pieces: The carriers may palletize the shipment and will update the rate according to the new dimensions and weight.
• Rail: LTL carriers may decide to use the rail after the cargo has been picked up and this may affect the transit time.
• Waiting Time: Each carrier provides a different waiting time, dependent upon a multitude of factors determined by the carrier. If you want to know the exact free time and fees, please review carriers’ rules tariff.
• Transit Time: It is not guaranteed unless it is specified in the quote. Guaranteed services do not include the pick-up and apply only to the transit time. If the pick-up is made after 5 p.m. the carrier will add 1 more day to the transit time.
• Receiving Hours: If the consignee’s business hours are different than 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM some carriers will charge an appointment fee and will contact the consignee prior to delivery.
• Pickup Attempt (TONU): LTL carriers will charge for trucks ordered and not used.
• Handling Fee: Please note if the freight is picked up under our contract and handled by us and for any reason you need to change the billing party and pay directly to the carrier or through any other 3PL we will charge a handling fee (15% of the cost with a minimum charge of $40).
• Kindly be aware that the pick-up process is subject to the driver’s discretion, and there might be instances where they could decline a pick-up based on factors such as size, packaging, material, commodity, and other considerations.
• LTL Rates Validity: 30 days since the date on the quote. Exceptions: ABF and SAIA: 7 days – XPO: 2 days.
• Volume LTL Rates Validity: 7 days since the quote was sent. Exceptions: FedEx and XPO: 2 days – SAIA: 3 days. If tendered freight is different from the quoted, the rate won’t be valid, and the carrier will charge the full price according to the capacity on that specific date.

Cargo Insurance
• After the certificate(s) of insurance have been sent all interested parties have 24 hrs. to carefully review and request any modification(s) through the purchaser of the certificate(s). If we do not receive change requests from the certificate purchaser within that time, all interested parties agree to the acceptance of all shipment details, accuracy, and terms and conditions of the certificate. The aforementioned agreement and acceptance of all certificate information and details waives any and all liabilities for Cargo Care Services, their employees, and agents, as a result of any Error and Omission related to a cargo insurance certificate.
• Cargo insurance, in the event of a covered peril, will only cover the actual value of the freight up to the amount insured. You can insure your freight up to CIF (Cost + insurance + freight) + 10% add.
• The loss payee for the transport coverage must be the entity who is at risk of a loss in the event of a covered incident at the time of the incident. The Incoterms, or other sales agreements, used will guide you to easily determine who the loss payee is.
• If you are insuring an over-dimensional shipment, please make sure to alert us when requesting insurance to enable us to arrange approval and coverage accordingly. If we are not notified, we cannot guarantee any and all claim(s) will be considered for payment by the underwriters.
• All containerized ocean freight is considered under-deck freight but in the event your freight is break-bulk or roll-on roll-off (not containerized), you will need to alert us whether it is stowed above deck or below deck. Above deck, breakbulk shipment coverage reverts automatically to Clause C cover without notice.
• Coverage for barges, towed vessels, and sailboats is excluded.
• Description of the goods as to whether they are fragile items, new, used, or used but refurbished as new needs to be accurate. To mis-categorize a shipment will create a high risk of a claim not being considered for approval.
• The sail date is not always the ship date. The ship date for the certificate of insurance is typically when the freight starts moving with you or your customer at risk. When is door-to-door then the ship date will be the date when the cargo is being picked up on the shipper’s door.
• There are some countries where coverage is until Port/Airport only. Coverage will cease automatically when your shipment is going to any of those countries so when in doubt, please ask.
